ALPENA - The Alpena IceDiggers broke a 2-2 third period tie with four consecutive goals in the first 12:47 of the final stanza and rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Traverse City North Stars on Sunday at Northern Lights Arena in the finale of a three-game holiday weekend series.

The hosts took a 2-0 lead over Traverse City by the third minute of the second frame, but the North Stars battled back with an unassisted effort by Eric McLintock (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) 18 seconds later, followed by a Trevor Campbell (Kansas City, MO/Lansing Capitals U18) marker with 4:57 to play before the second intermission. Nick Shkreli (Romero, MI/Mahoning Valley NAHL) assisted on Campbell's first junior goal.

The bottom fell out for the top team in the NAHL North Division in the final third, as fifth-place Alpena (8-16-0) scored at 6:37, 9:36, 10:19, and for the sixth and final time with 7:13 to play, to claim two of three games in the series.

Tyler Marble (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior State) made 18 saves as the North Stars dropped to 15-6-1 and remain three points ahead of idle second-place Marquette in the NAHL North.

The North Stars and IceDiggers will face off again next weekend, with the teams meeting up at Northern Lights Arena on Friday before returning to Centre ICE arena for a 7 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
