Dewalt, Pendleton and Crum Earn Week 13 Honors
Published on June 16, 2010 under Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release
Columbus Lions wide receiver Lonnell Dewalt along teammate kicker Trey Crum and Lafayette Wildcatters defensive back Clarence Pendleton have been named the Offensive, Special Teams, and Defensive Players of the Week respectively by the Southern Indoor Football League for Week 13.
It was a long time coming, but Columbus wide receiver Lonnell Dewalt (6'6 230, Kentucky) garnered Week 13's Offensive Player of the Week nod by tying the SIFL record for most touchdowns in a single game by a receiver. In the Lions 99-0 shutout over the Force, Dewalt grabbed five receptions and 94 yards with all five catches going for touchdowns tying the SIFL record set previously by Greenville's Isaac West. The former AF2 star (Lexington Horsemen) had been looking for a breakout game as majority of his earlier touchdowns came via inside the red-zone.
Taking home his second Defensive Player of the Week nod is Lafayette Wildcatters defensive back Clarence Pendleton (5'9 170, Tennessee-Martin). Previously winning the award back in Week 7, Pendleton took home this week's award for recording nine tackles in the Wildcatters 48-46 win over the first place Albany Panthers. His nine interceptions currently rank him second behind Columbus' Damian Daniels for tops in the SIFL.
With his performance in Week 13, Columbus Lions kicker Trey Crum (5'6 170, Delta State) earned his fifth nod as Special Teams Player of the Week. In the past, Crum has received the POW award in Weeks 2, 3, 7, and 9. A big reason he obtained the gesture this week was due to his perfection on PAT'S going 13 for 13 against the Force, passing his own record which he set back in Week 5. Trey added two uno's to his league-leading 21, and finished Friday's contest with 15 total points bringing his league-leading total to 114 points.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Lafayette WR Clyde Edwards (10 rec., 90 yards, 2 TD'S), Albany WR Antwontis Cutts (10 rec., 100 yards, 1 TD).
Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Columbus DL Shawn Morgan (2 fumble recoveries both for TD'S and 1 safety), Louisiana DB Brandon Thomas (2 interceptions, and 3 tackles).
Special Teams Player of the Week candidates included: Lafayette K Sean Comiskey (5-6 PAT'S, 1-1 FG, 2 UNO'S), Louisiana K Blake Bercegeay (5-5 PAT'S and 3 UNO'S).
