Detroit Fury News Release

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Fury has announced plans to utilize the hospital's closed circuit television network to reach more kids on an interactive basis when they visit Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit on Thursday, May 2nd at 2:00 p.m.

"Our players find these types of visits so gratifying and one of their biggest concerns has always been that they never get to see enough kids," said Greg Myford, general manager for the Fury. "The closed circuit network at Children's will give guys like Robert (Gordon) and Chuck (Winters) a chance to reach out and interact with kids they may have never been able to in the past. We'll be able to make some friends and we are very, very pleased to be a part of this wonderful program."

Before the Fury visit, kids will be encouraged to submit questions that will be asked during the broadcast. One lucky kid will be selected to interview the players during the broadcast, asking the questions posed by his fellow hospital guests. During the broadcast, kids from all areas of the hospital will be able to call in and ask questions or speak to the players.

Gordon and Winters will be joined by Rickey Foggie and Shawndel Tucker and will interact with kids on the sixth floor of Children's Hospital in the Play Room. This room will serve as the studio for the live, closed circuit network broadcast.

"The kids just love the visits from athletes and they love the closed-circuit network," said Gail Wilson, childlife assistant who is in charge of the fifth and sixth floor Play Rooms. "The television broadcast gives kids, who may be too sick or are in isolation and can't come down to the Play Room, a chance to see their favorite celebrities and interact with them."

The Fury will also donate 100 books to the Children's Hospital library.

The Fury's Home Opener is slated for Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. at The Palace of Auburn Hills. For ticket information, contact the Palace Box Office at (248) 377-0100 or log on to www.detroitfury.com.
