Sky Blue FC News Release
Somerset, N.J. (Friday, January 28, 2010) - Sky Blue FC of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) confirmed today the details regarding its upcoming open tryouts, which will take place on March 6-7th. The host site of the two-day trials will be the Metuchen SportsPlex in central New Jersey, and registration for the tryouts is now officially open.
"We will have a combination of typical training sessions and games, depending on our overall numbers," Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra stated. "What we are offering players is the best chance to be seen in a professional environment, as well as the opportunity to receive an invitation into our training camp. We will likely take a couple of players into camp because of national team call-ups, where they will have the chance to earn one of the spots for the trip to Turkey or even a roster spot."
Sky Blue FC recently announced that the team will be traveling to Turkey for nine days of the preseason, participating in a four-team tournament with Damallsvenskan side LdB FC Malmö, FK Energiya of Russia and Danish club Fortuna Hj=F8rring. Players who emerge from the open tryouts would be joining the team on its trip overseas.
"Our job and responsibility is to take the best players from these tryouts," Gabarra continued. "There are always players out there that people have not gotten the chance to see, and this is a great opportunity for them to show us what they can do."
The cost of the open trials is $100 per participant, and that one-time fee will guarantee both days of the tryouts. Both indoor and outdoor gear should be brought to the training facility. For hopefuls traveling from out of town, Sky Blue FC has reserved a special rate of $59.95 at the Red Roof Inn of Edison, which is just a short car ride from the Metuchen SportsPlex. Anyone interested in taking advantage of this offer can call the Red Roof Inn at 732-248-9300 and mention the Sky Blue FC tryouts.
"At these tryouts, we will be looking for players who could come in and help our team," assistant coach Rick Stainton remarked. "We are seeking players who possess technical savvy, as well as tactical awareness. The best candidates will be those who could fit into our system, relative to what we want to implement during the season. These tryouts are beneficial because they provide an opportunity to expose players who might not have had any other resource available to reach the professional ranks."
On March 6th, two sessions will be conducted, the first running from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and second from 2:30-4:00 p.m. The following day, the two sessions will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and 1:30-3:00 p.m. These times are subject to change, but participants will be notified if that occurs.
