Chicago, IL - Manchester Millrats forward Desmond Ferguson was named PBL Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Ferguson, a 6-7 forward and former Portland Trailblazer, received Player of the Week honors as he averaged 21.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.5 apg and 2.0 spg while shooting 47.0% from the field in two games this week.
"This award is an attribute to my teammates, coaching staff and the Millrats organization," stated Ferguson. "Anytime you receive an individual award in a team sport, it's because of the success of your team and teammates you have around you. Fortunately for us, we have won 10 of our last 11 games, and I have been able to put together a couple decent games."
Ferguson led the Millrats to a 2-0 week which included a 102-89 win over the Vermont Frost Heaves, a game in which he scored 24 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ferguson finished with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in Manchester's 137-85 win over Montreal.
"Desmond has been a tremendous leader for our team," said Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy. "He's a stabilizing force and gives our younger guys confidence when needed. He is very cerebral on the court and knows how to exploit the other team's weakness."
Ferguson is currently the Millrats leading scorer at 17.5 ppg, good for 19th in the league.
"This is a well deserving award for Desmond," said Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon. "He has been doing this all year for us and by far is out most consistent player. He is our leader on and off the court and has hit clutch shots all year."
Other nominee's includedJean-Phillipe Morin of the Quebec Kebs, Keith Friel of the Rochester RazorSharks, Tony Bennett of the Halifax Rainmen, Tyrone Rayson of the Buffalo Stampede and Demetrius Howard of the Augusta Groove.
