Delaware Stars Will Not Finish Season
May 24, 2007 - United States Basketball League (USBL) News Release
Milford, CT - (May 24, 2007) The United States Basketball League (USBL) has announced that the Delaware Stars organization will end further operations for the remainder of the 2007 season. The team and league have come to this decision based on the current financial situation of the team.
"The Delaware Stars would like to thank the fans and Wilmington College for their help and support of the team," stated Mike Richmond, Delaware Head Coach. "We will continue to work towards the 2008 USBL season."
"The USBL wants to be in Delaware, but this season has not worked out well financially for the team," said USBL Commissioner Daniel Meisenheimer, III, "We plan on working with Mike Richmond and his partners this off-season to bring the Stars back stronger in 2008."
The USBL season will continue with the six remaining teams. All of Delaware's remaining home games will be canceled. However, the Long Island Primetime will play the Stars' remaining away contests against Albany and Brooklyn. The games played by Long Island will be combined with Delaware's record for standings purposes. The Primetime will not play any home games or participate in post-season play.
James Ryans will coach the Primetime. Ryans led Long Island to a 16-14 record last season before falling in the opening round of the 2006 USBL Post-Season Championship. In six USBL seasons Ryans has compiled an 82-82 record.
