Delaware Griffins suspended by the WPFL

Hurst, TX - The Women's Professional Football League announced today that the Delaware Griffins have been placed on immediate suspension from the league for a By-Law violation. This suspension will prevent them from participating in the rest of the WPFL 2005 Season until such time as their violation has been rectified. The previously scheduled Griffins game for this weekend against the Carolina Queens has been cancelled by the WPFL. The league is not disclosing any specific details surrounding the violation, just stating that "It is unfortunate".
"This is not a move we as a league or Board of Directors wanted to take," stated League Executive Director, Dawn Berndt. "The Griffins are our 2004 Eastern Division champions, and we are proud to have them as a part of the WPFL. Unfortunately when a situation arises where a team is in violation of their agreement to the league and it negatively effects both the league and more directly their sister teams, we have to follow the By-laws and adhere to their strict repercussions".
The WPFL is hopeful that a resolution can be reached and has given the Griffins' owners the opportunity to rectify their violation.
"As hard as it may be to enforce the rules sometimes, especially when it involves the suspension of a great team, that is why we are the longest operating women's professional football league; we know we have to stick to the By-Laws across the board," said Berndt.
The WPFL will release schedule changes regarding other scheduled Griffins games should the suspension not be removed.
