Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League announced today that Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski has signed forward Paul DeJoe for the 2007-08 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
DeJoe, 24, is a true homegrown prospect growing up in Canfield where he first took to the ice at the Rocky Ridge outdoor rink. The 5-7, 175-pound forward played two years of hockey at Canfield High School before joining Division III Neumann College (Aston, Pennsylvania) where he served as captain for three seasons. Following a successful collegiate career, DeJoe went on to play professionally in Europe. He compiled seven goals and 18 assists in 42 games during his final year of play in the Belgian Elite League.
SteelHounds General Manager Joe Gregory is very excited about having DeJoe apply his craft in his hometown saying, "We've had Paul on our radar for sometime now. I'm glad we are able to bring him back home to play. It will be exciting to see a hometown guy wearing our sweater this season."
Head Coach Kevin Kaminski feels that DeJoe can bring some excitement to the team saying, "We look forward to seeing what Paul can do to crack the lineup. It's always special to play in front of your hometown. I'm sure he'll do whatever it takes to stick, and that's the type of players I'm looking for."
DeJoe is the first player in franchise history to come from the Youngstown area and joins Bethel Park, Pennsylvania native Denis Kirstein as regional prospects with the SteelHounds this season.
Fans will get their first chance to see Paul DeJoe and the rest of the new SteelHounds on Friday, October 12th when Youngstown plays host to the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones in an exhibition game at 7:05pm. Tickets are on sale for this game for $5 and are available by calling (330) 747-PUCK. The SteelHounds home opener will be on Friday, November 23rd when they take on the defending Northeast Division Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:05pm.
