Frisco Thunder News Release
FRISCO, Tex. (February 21,2008) -- An interception on the first play from scrimmage set the tone for a strong defensive performance by the Frisco Thunder in a Thursday night scrimmage with the Kaufman County Krunch at Centennial High School.
Two Kevin Lenford picks and four LaMont Finley sacks highlighted a Thunder defense that held the Krunch, a member of the Independent Indoor Football Alliance, without an offensive touchdown during a productive two-hour session.
"The defense showed up,'' said Thunder coach Troy Esprit. "Let's see if we can turn those picks and sacks into sixes (touchdowns) and threes (field goals). "I was happy with all aspects of the game tonight, yet we still have some work to get ready for San Angelo in our season opener. We're on pace."
Also registering interceptions for the Thunder were Michael Catchings and Shaylon Carter , with Carter returning his for what would have been a touchdown. Courtney Brooks added two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery for the defense, which forced three turnovers and recorded five sacks in the first 20 plays of action.
On offense, Wes Cooper threw for four touchdowns - two to Richard Morris and one each to Jason Deml and Daron Lawrence. Cooper completed only 11 of 23 attempts, but most of those misfires came during goal line situation work.
When the teams resumed play on a "full" 50-yard field, Cooper connected with Morris on a 40-yard touchdown strike on the first play from scrimmage and then with Deml on another 40-yarder two plays later before yielding to James Wilson the rest of the evening.
A playoff team its expansion season, the Thunder hosts the opening game of the 2008 Intense Football League season on Saturday, March 1st at 6 p.m. against the San Angelo Stampede Express. All home games will be played in the Deja Blue Arena, located in the Frisco Dr Pepper StarCenter. Season and individual tickets are available now at 972-731-6968.
