Philadelphia Charge News Release

As it turned out, Wednesday was a pretty good day for the Charge to have off from practice. Temperatures reached the high-90s and-combined with the hard workouts the team had Monday and Tuesday, and expects on Thursday and Friday, the day off was perfect timing.

"We wanted to try to keep things as normal as possible heading into Saturday's game," head coach Mark Krikorian said. "For the most part, Wednesday was our day off during the regular season and it remained that way for this week."

Today was also the day the league announced the finalist for its year-end awards. The Charge led the league with eight nominations, highlighted by forward Marinette Pichon's nominations for Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.

Also, Erica Iverson and Jen Tietjen were named finalists for Defensive Player of the Year, while Melissa Moore is being considered for Goalkeeper of the Year. Midfielder Stacey Tullock is up for Rookie of the Year and defender Jenny Benson is a finalist for Humanitarian of the Year.

Krikorian is one of three finalists for Coach of the Year and General Manager Tim Murphy is up for Executive of the Year.

"It is great to have such representation for these awards," Krikorian said. "However, while individual achievement is great, our goal is to win the Founders Cup and that's where our focus is right now."

A Day Off

The players spent their day off different ways. Tietjen spent time with her husband, Darren, while midfielder Lorrie Fair made a visit to Eagles' training camp. It was the second time that Fair has travel up to camp, having also visited last week on her birthday.

Mitts talked about this Saturday's game against Mia Hamm and the Freedom and also talked about her time as a youngster playing soccer with her younger brother in the back yard. She credits Brian with instilling in her a competitive edge.

Tonight, Mitts will also be appearing on The Last Call with Carson Daly. The show airs at 1:30 am on NBC. She taped the segment last Monday.
