Dawgs Hit Three, Three Run Homers to Knock Off the Charge, 9-4 Scrap Yard Dawgs Take Game 2 of Series with Texas Charge
SAN MARCOS, TX (June 9, 2017) - Lauren Haeger's first start of 2017 was spoiled by the Scrap Yard Dawgs Friday night at Texas State's Bobcat Softball Stadium, also home of the Texas Charge of National Pro Fastpitch.
The Texas Charge right-hander gave up a pair of three-run home runs in the first two frames against the Dawgs in a 9-4 loss.
The Scrap Yard Dawgs (1-1) added a third three-run bomb against reliever Jill Compton in the third to grab a command 9-0 lead.
The Charge (1-1) saw Amanda Kamekona tally a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth against Dawgs southpaw Monica Abbott to put her team on the board. Nadia Taylor added a solo shot in the sixth - her second of the season and Mandy Ogle recorded an RBI sac fly in the seventh.
The comeback bid fell short thanks to the early fireworks provided by the Scrap Yard Dawgs' Taylor Edwards, Nerissa Myers and Alisa Goler, who all connected on three-run blasts.
Monica Abbott picked up the win after tossing four frames and striking out seven.
Texas Charge relievers Emily Vincent and Brittany Mack-Oakes each worked two scoreless frames in the setback.
The current series now shifts to Conroe for the final three games. The Texas Charge and Scrap Yard Dawgs play at 7:05 pm CT and have a scheduled doubleheader Sunday at 1:05 pm CT and 4:05 pm CT.
