Saint John Riptide News Release
Dave Cummings, of Epsom N.H., plans to sink 1 million free throws and raise $1 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
And he will make some of his 1 million free throws at halftime of Sunday's Manchester Millrats basketball game.
In keeping with the theme of Veteran's and Military Night, the Millrats have invited Dave to participate to benefit his cause, Hoops for Heroes. Hoops for Heroes is a registered New Hampshire not-for-profit organization whose mission is to pay tribute to Veterans by providing financial support to those that have sacrificed for our nation.
All Veterans and Active Duty Military will be admitted to the game for $1.00, and the first 25 to attend will be upgraded to VIP Courtside tickets.
To help raise money for Dave's cause, the Millrats will be holding a 50/50 raffle at the game, and for each article of merchandise sold, $2.00 will also be donated.
Dave started on Veterans Day in 2009, and says he can reach his goal by Veterans Day 2011 by sinking 1,370 shots per day. On one day recently he sank 7,000 shots in ten hours.
Cummings says he keeps a pair of empty sneakers near the basket, symbolizing the men and woman who have died in war.
The game between the Manchester Millrats and the Quebec Kebs tips off at 7:00pm at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University 2500 N. River Road Manchester, NH 03036. Tickets are on sale online at www.millrats.com or at the door. Doors open 1 hour prior to tip off.
On Saturday at 7:00PM, the Millrats will play host to the Rochester RazorSharks, who are led by former Oyster River (N.H.) High School star, Keith Friel.
