Dakota Wizards capture 2004 CBA title

March 23, 2004 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

Bismarck, ND (March 22, 2004) — The Dakota Wizards captured the 2004 CBA Title with a 132-129 victory over the Idaho Stampede Monday night in front of 5,130 fans at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, ND. The win gave the franchise its second CBA Championship in three years (2004, 2002).

Idaho led 69-65 at halftime, but a 32-38 advantage in the third quarter for Dakota had the game tied 97-97 as the fourth quarter began. The Wizards then built an eight-point lead with less than a minute to play, before the Stampede cut the deficit to three points with 3.6 seconds to play in the game. A final three-point attempt by Idaho’s Randy Livingston came up short at the buzzer, however, sealing the win for Dakota.

The Wizards were led by guard Maurice Carter, who posted 36 points and was a perfect 14 of 14 from the free-throw line on his way to earning the 2004 Playoffs Most Valuable Player award. He was followed by forward Ben Ebong with 23 points, while Billy Keys and Chris Porter both added 19 points. The Stampede were led by forward Josh Davis’ 27 points, followed by 25 from guard David Bailey and 24 from Livingston.
