Memphis, June 7, 2009-The Memphis Tornadoes announced the hiring of International Coach Joao Da Costa at the start of the 2009 summer season. Coach Da Costa comes to the WBA to coach the Memphis Tornadoes and build a Minor League Professional Team in Memphis.
Da Costa's basketball career started as a professional player in Europe. His coaching philosophy was developed in the Unites States; he lives in Seattle, Washington. He has bridge relationships with NBA Coaches such as Eric Mussellman (Sacramento Kings) Bob Hill (San Antonio Spurs), NCAA coaches, Roy Williams, Bobby Knight and Mike Krzyzewski just to name a few. He coaches in USA and overseas. Da Costa teaches camps and clinics around the world during the off season.
Da Costa has the ability to blend the teaching of fundamentals that is fun, and exciting as well as challenging players with creative and unique drills. Da Costa's best attributes are that he can recognize talent and mold players to prepare them for successful professional careers. Da Costa has captured his unique blend of coaching in the five basketball books he has authored. (I'm Helping You, Coach! Improve Your Defense, Coach! I Get It, Coach! Let Me Play, Coach! And Learn Defense) In them he focuses on helping Coaches motivate, teach and develop their players and build better teams. His books are full of unique drills designed to improve individual fundamental skill as well as motivate and improve team spirit.
