SAN JOSE, CA - Despite recording her recording her second career hat trick, Tiffeny Milbrett and the New York Power (2-7-1, 7 pts.) fell to the San Jose CyberRays (5-3-2, 17 pts.) 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium. Brandi Chastain was the hero of the game for the CyberRays recording two goals and setting up the game-winning penalty kick in the high-scoring affair.

Katia gave the CyberRays its fifth straight regular season victory with a penalty kick in the 88th minute. The PK was the result of New York defender Kristy Whelchel taking down Chastian in the box with goalkeeper Nicole Williams on the ground. For the foul, Whelchel received a red card and was ejected.

New York took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after Milbrett successfully converted a penalty kick for her fifth goal of the season. The PK was the result of Sara Whalen being taken down in the box by San Jose's Diane Alagich. The goal was her first versus the CyberRays of her WUSA career.

San Jose tied the match in the 54th minute. Maren Hendershot-Brown, who was substituted into the game at halftime, scored her first career goal to level the match 1-1. Katia passed the ball back to Michelle French. French then chipped the ball in to the box. Hendershot-Brown slid in behind New York's back line and flicked the ball past goalkeeper Williams. Both French and Katia were credited with assists on the play.

Three minutes prior to the game-tying goal, New York Power Head Coach Pat Farmer was ejected from the match after disagreeing with a referee's call.

Chastain gave the CyberRays their first lead of the game with her second goal of the season in the 66th minute. French chipped the ball to Chastian who got behind the New York defense. Chastian then flicked the ball over Williams as the New York 'keeper cam off her line. French notched her second assist of the match.

Milbrett tied the match in the 69th minute as the New York forward received a header pass from Katie Tracy inside the area. As Milbrett was running to the right side of the box, the Power's leading scorer shot the ball, beating LaKeysia Beene far left post. Tracy was credited with her first assist of the 2002 season. A minute later San Jose's Chastian gave the CyberRays the lead once more with her second goal of the match, beating Williams with a driving shot to the lower left.

Milbrett recorded her third goal of the game and the first hat trick (second of her career) of the 2002 season in the 83rd minute. Anita Rapp flicked a header pass to Milbrett in the box, who beat Beene with a shot to the upper left corner.
