Cutters Win Game 1

August 8, 2015 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

The Cane Cutters win their first ever home playoff game 9-4. They were trailing early on but rallied with a big inning to win the game.

The Victoria Generals fought hard as they tallied the first 3 runs of the game. They were able to score 2 in the top of the fourth inning and one in the top of the fifth.

The starting pitcher for the General, Braxton Smith, was cruising along through the first four innings. That was when things went wrong for him as he only lasted 4.2 innings; in which he gave up 8 hits, 7 runs, and a walk.

The starting pitcher for the Cane Cutters, Daniel Martinez pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs. He was then backed up by Michael Hanchar (Nicholls State) who went on to pitch3.2 innings, allowed 3 hits and 1 run.

The Cane Cutters had an enormous inning, scoring 7 runs, and never looked back. Leiff Clarkson (Western Kentucky) started the bottom of the fifth with a single. Evan Williams (TCU), 2-4 with a run scored, would then also single. Zak Kutsulis (Notre Dame), 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a walk, would draw a walk to load the bases. With the bases load Daniel Keating (Southern Miss) would single to score Clarkson.

The Cane Cutters would score 3 more runs off of Chance Vincent (University of Alabama) reaching base on a single and a couple of throwing errors by the Generals. Then Kyle Knauth (Nicholls State) would hit a 2 run home run to make the score 7-3.

The Cane Cutters would then tack on a run in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh.

Leading 9-3 the team would give up one more run to the Generals to lead 9-4.

Wilmer Nunez (Ranger College) then came in and closed the door as he pitched 1 inning of 1 hit ball with a strikeout.

After winning tonight the team now faces the Brazos Valley Bombers in the Championship Series. It will be a three game series with the first game here at Fabacher Field starting a 7 p.m. Tickets will be half priced so come out to catch some exciting Texas Collegiate League baseball!
