Cubo Torres Scores for OCSC in 1-1 Draw with Sacramento
April 17, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC forward Erick 'Cubo' Torres scored his first goal in Black and Orange with a first half penalty shot in a 1-1 draw with Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, April 16 at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine.
The former Mexican international was due for a goal after going through the first handful of matches scoreless in his first season in the USL Championship. Torres netted the goal in the 26' after Milan Iloski drew a foul in the box.
With defender Michael Orozco missing his first match in two seasons, OCSC trotted out a new look starting squad with midfielder Daniel Pedersen wearing the captain's armband for the first time.
It only took Sacramento two minutes to find the back of the net after a misplayed ball in the backline from OCSC led to an empty net chance for Damia Viader. Despite giving up an early goal, OCSC got themselves back into the match by continuing to find ways to break down Sacramento's defense. The best chances came in the second half, but none of them turned out to be fruitful for the reigning champions.
On Wednesday, April 20, OCSC will continue their march in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a Third Round match against MLS side Los Angeles FC at 7:30pm at Banc of California Stadium. OCSC returns to USL Championship play with a roadtrip to Indiana to face Indy Eleven in a Sunday afternoon match on April 24 at 2:30pm PDT on ESPN Deportes.
