Crunch Win 2nd Straight, Top The Winless Revolution
June 5, 2006 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Battle Creek Crunch News Release
The Battle Creek Crunch keep their playoff hopes alive with a commanding 51-22 victory over the New York/ New Jersey Revolution on June 3rd. The win gives the Crunch their second straight victory, and move them into a three-way tie for third place in the Great Lakes Indoor Football League at 3-4. It also puts the Crunch as the third seed in the playoffs began this week, with the Orange and Black winning the tiebreaker with the Marion Mayhem (splitting the season series and outscoring them 76-66) and currently leading the tiebreaker with the Lehigh Valley Outlawz, after their 59-53 victory on May 27th.
Eric Gardner continues his MVP season, grabbing three passes for 71 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed his first pass in three attempts this season, a 32-yard touchdown dart to Brian Dolph. Dolph, in his second game following a bruised ankle injury, caught five more passes for 63 yards and his first two touchdowns of the GLIFL season. Tim Kubiak had his second straight stellar game for the Crunch, as he threw for 130 yards on 11-for-17 passing and four touchdown passes.
The Crunch defense could not be denied in the blowout either, as they held the Revolution offense to zero yards in the first half. It's also the first time that a GLIFL team has been shut out in a half. The Revolution would gain 110 yards for the game, after a switch at quarterback. Karim McFarlane, in his second game with the Revs, went 4-for-10 for 101 yards with wo touchdown passes and an interception. The Creatlively Sain Defensive Player of the Week Herb Haygood, who returned an interception for a touchdown against the Outlawz, would do so again this week, this time for 47 yards. The Crunch defense would capitalize all night, forcing three turnovers and scoring 14 points.
The Crunch will have a rematch with the Outlawz this Saturday at the Kelogg Arena. A win for the Crunch would put them at 4-4 on the season, and give them the advantage in their tiebreaker with Lehigh Valley. Kickoff is at 7:35pm Saturday night, and tickets are still available at the Kellogg Arena Box Office, or through the Crunch website at www.battlecreekcrunch.com!
