Countdown to Kickoff -- April 7, 2006

April 7, 2006 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Battle Creek Crunch News Release

-- The Great Lakes Indoor Football League's Inaugural Season kicks off tonight, as the Battle Creek Crunch host the Port Huron Pirates, in what could be the rivalry of the league. The two teams will face off for the first time this season, with the second match-up taking place at McMorran Place in Port Huron on June 17th.

-- The Crunch will bring six players to their roster with indoor experience. Wide receiver Brian Dolph, one of the first players signed, has actual Arena Football League experience, playing for the Indiana Firebirds and the Houston Thunderbears. LJ Parker was invited to the Grand Rapids Rampage mini-camp earlier this year.

-- The Pirates also have six players with indoor experience, including quarterback Shane Franzer, who played for the Memphis Xplorers. Franzer, along with three other players on the squad, all won championship rings with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds in 2003 while they were in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL). The Greyhounds are now in the United Indoor Football League (UIF).

-- Chris Matsos, a wide receiver with the Pirates, was invited to Crunch camp earlier this year, but never made it. He ended up going to the Pirates and was later signed.

-- Tim Kubiak will get the start for the Crunch this week, and will be ahead of his brother Ken. Of course, the decision was up to their older brother, Head Coach Bob Kubiak.

-- Can't make it to the game? Hear it online! Nathan Adams has the call from Kellogg Arena tonight, with the pregame starting at 6:45pm. Catch the game on the Crunch website at www.battlecreekcrunch.com.
