Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The American Hockey League has announced forward Cory Conacher will join defenseman Matt Taormina, forward Yanni Gourde and Head Coach Benoit Groulx in representing the Syracuse Crunch on the North Division team at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, to be held Jan. 29 - 30 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Conacher, 27, has racked up 32 points in 34 games with the Crunch this season. He is tied for the team lead with 25 assists and ranks third in total points. In his last 15 games, the Burlington, Ontario native has recorded 17 points (3g, 14a). He currently holds the longest active road assists streak in the league with six helpers in six consecutive road contests. The 5-foot-8 forward is in his second stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization and was signed to a one-year, one-way contract with the team on July 13. He has appeared in seven games with the Bolts this season recording one goal and one assist with a plus-4 rating. This is Conacher's second AHL All-Star Classic appearance. He was first named an AHL All-Star in 2012.
The 2017 All-Star rosters now feature 39 first-time participants, 12 AHL rookies and 15 former first- and second-round NHL draft choices. In addition, 28 of this year's All-Stars have been recalled to the National Hockey League already this season.
The 2017 AHL All-Star Skills Competition presented by Giant Food Stores and Velaspan on Jan. 29 (7:30 p.m. ET) will pit the All-Stars from the two Eastern Conference divisions against those from the two Western Conference divisions in seven skills events.
In the 2017 AHL All-Star Challenge on Jan. 30 (7 p.m. ET), the four teams will participate in a round-robin tournament featuring six games of 10 minutes each, played entirely at 3-on-3. The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship, a six-minute game also played at 3-on-3.
