Conner McMahon Throws First No-Hitter in FCBL History

Published on July 1, 2011 under Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) News Release

ROCHESTER - Torrington Titans left-handed pitcher, Conner McMahon, earned the first no-hitter in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) history with a 1-0 win over the Seacoast Mavericks at Bert George Field on Thursday.

McMahon baffled Maverick hitters, striking out ten, allowing no walks on the evening. The Mavericks were only able to reach the outfield twice against McMahon.

The lone threat to the no hitter came in the second inning when Casey Cotter popped up behind the third base bag. Torrington short stop Josh Simms called for the ball and the ball appeared to have trickled off the end of his glove onto the ground. After much discussion in the press box, the play was ruled an error, keeping the no hitter alive early in the game.

Maverick starter Nick Douglass was electric as well, only allowing two hits over the course of seven innings, while striking out nine. Jhonnaris Mendez took the loss after allowing an RBI single to Andrew Spleth, after Rich Graef doubled to deep right center field.

McMahon's record improves to 1-1. Mendez drops to 0-1.

McMahon is from Westfield, MA and heading into his Sophomore year at Merrimack College in Andover, MA.
