Commentary: NIFL daily buzz

by Jerry Hewitt
May 20, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)

Is it a lie, a cover up, or just some refusing to admit the error of their ways? On Monday, May 22nd it will all be revealed. Check in Monday at OurSports Central or IndoorBowl.Com for "Firestorm overwhelms the NIFL." The actual title of the article is different by the way, but if I used it, the secret would be out and that wouldn't be any fun. Seriously, don't miss this non Daily Buzz article, it is big!

Tennessee update, again

I reported yesterday on the state of Tennessee and after doing so got a flurry of emails again on the subject. According to those emails, it's the Tennessee Pioneers semi pro team that will take the place of the River Sharks. Their website is here, www.tennesseepioneers.com Also am told that they will become a road only team regardless of the LaMunyon claims of all future games played as scheduled.

Now we have learned the other venue LaMunyon refers to holds only around 1000. Wow, that many. We we're also told that in spite of her claims to have been in the East Ridge area talking with investors, she is no where near Tennessee and hiding out from the rental agency that gave her a car as part of a sponsorship package for the River Sharks.

One email wanted to know how come the NIFL leadership doesn't step in to fix things. I'll let readers draw their own conclusions on the why not there.

NIFL lawsuit

Here is what the NIFL lawsuit filed against the AIFL, APFL, IFL, and UIF is asking for. This is the short answer. All profits from all leagues and teams from the date of the patent and copyright and triple damages. Well this suit may be pretty much harmless if that is all that is asked for. I say harmless since most of the teams involved probably have no profits or so little they won't even cover the NIFL legal fees. 500 pages and this is all that is wanted? This joke just gets better and better. I have to believe more is asked for than I've been told. I firmly believe the object here is for one person to own all of indoor football.

This weeks games

St. Joseph @ Tri-Cities Time for the Fever to pad the stats against the replacement Cyclones. Only speculation here is if the Fever score more than a hundred.

Wyoming @ Rapid City Ouch, ouch and ouch again. Wyoming is just no match for Rapid City and that's just a fact. Not sure any team in the league, including undefeated Lakeland is a match for the Aces.

Katy @ Beaumont The Drillers have to win this game. There is no option, win or look towards next season. The Drillers do have home field and the support of the noisy Drillers Road Krewe, but will that be enough? My surprise team of the season, Beaumont, needs to surprise me tonight with a win.

Greensboro at Twin City Outside of Greensboro and Twin City fans, does anybody care about this game? Well another chance for 0-7 Twin City to get their first win. Greensboro isn't very good, in fact one of the leagues worst. I'm taking the Gators here, not even going to call it an upset when they win.

RiverCity @ Lakeland Game of the week without question. Since Billings beat RiverCity, this game will give us a better indication of Lakeland's strength. Not to take anything away from the "Bolts, but I still don't see them as good as some Pacific teams. I think this one will be close and I hope the Rage webcast actually works for this game.

Montgomery @ Cincinnati. Marshals to the af2? OK, I'm buying that one. Montgomery is rejuvenated and reborn after LaMunyon tried to destroy them. Cincinnati isn't a bad team, but not as good as the new Maulers.

Palm Beach @ Fayetteville Palm Beach shocked Osceola last week. Fayetteville eked out two wins against Football, but, but, but .................. trying to decide here, see reasons both could win. The Guard should prevail and if they do, it won't be close. If PB wins, it will come down to the wire.

Osceola @ Florida Osceola, enough said. Florida disappoints me each week, so done taking them.

Arkansas @ Tennessee Postponed.

Billings @ Big Sky And time for the Outlaws to pad their stats. Only question in this one is will Chris Dixon be back with the Outlaws? News reports say no, not this week.

Fire watch

Tennessee may be rising from the ashes along with a few others, but will the impending major firestorm destroy all that remains of the NIFL? Monday will provide those answers.

Parting notes

Time for a change folks, no question about it, but I wonder if anybody capable of making change is listening. And to maybe call out those who have the power to make a difference, to make the changes needed, I wonder, do you have what it takes to make the right decisions or cower as in years past. Blunt I know, politically correct, maybe not, but exactly as I see it.
