October 13, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Kansas City Command News Release

The Kansas City Command today announced the signing of several players for the new team that head coach Danton Barto believes will start the team up in great shape. "These guys were on our depth charts at the top, they are committed to winning, and anxious to bring winning arena league football to Kansas City. We can't wait to get started." Among the signings are QB JJ Raterink and WR/LB Aaron Hosack. Also signed are LB Tyus Jackson, DB Carlton Brown, DB Sergio Gilliam, DB Erick Harris, WR/LB Brad Chavez, DB Ken Fontenette, OL/DL Bryan Robinson, WR Bret Smith, and QB Stephen Wasil.

Raterink started 5 games for the Chicago Rush last season, where he compiled 1062 yards passing, threw for 21 touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 117.9. Prior to last season he was with the Quad City Steamwheelers of the Af2 where in 2008 he was the league leader in touchdowns with 88, league leader in yards passing with 4505 yards and league leader in total offense. He was named Af2 Offensive Player of the Week in two weeks of the 2008 season. In the 2009 season, in 10 starts he threw for 54 touchdowns, but then went on injured reserve. JJ was with the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings for the 2006 season. He is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, where as quarterback was a four year letter winner, three time Academic All-Conference, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. "Kansas City was absolutely my first choice. I love the city, and the chance work with Coach Barto and (General Manager) Kevin Porter is like a dream come true," said Raterink.

Also signed is Aaron Hosack who comes with NFL Europa experience. In three seasons, he compiled 70 receptions for 1129 years and 14 touchdowns, and competed in World Bowl XIV with the Frankfurt Galaxy. Prior to that he was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. Hosack is a product of the Minnesota Golden Gophers where in two seasons he had 80 receptions for 1463 yards and 11 touchdowns. In the 2008 season he was with the Colorado Crush where he had 37 receptions and 10 touchdowns.

Other News: The Command had their open tryouts this last Sunday, and they were the biggest ever. With close to 100 entries, General Manager Kevin Porter liked a lot of what he saw. "The talent level and pro experience level were much higher this year. We have several guys we are going to take an extended look at. It wouldn't surprise Coach Barto and me if several end up being invited to practice with the squad," said Porter.
