Kansas City Command News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Command assigned three more players this week with the additions of former Arizona Cardinals receiver Daiveun Curry-Chapman (6-2, 210), first-team Big Sky All-Conference defensive back Korey Askew (5-9, 185), and receiver Jackie Chambers (5-10, 190).
Curry-Chapman comes to the Command after reporting to the Cardinals as an undrafted, rookie free agent prior to the start of the 2011 NFL season. The former Northern Arizona University Lumberjack had a break-out season his senior year, tallying 69 receptions for 738 yards and six touchdowns.
"Curry-Chapman definitely has the size and hands to be an NFL receiver," Command head coach Danton Barto said. "He graded out very well, and we are looking forward to seeing him on the 50-yard field."
Askew played collegiately at the University of Northern Colorado. He had an All-Conference season in 2010, recording 58 tackles, three interceptions for touchdowns, four pass break-ups, eight passes defended, and one fumble returned for a touchdown. The defensive back was dangerous with the football in his hands, leading the Northern Colorado Bears in 2009 with 112 interception return yards on just three interceptions.
"We looked at Askew on film and just couldn't help but notice him," Barto said. "He makes plays and he's always around the ball."
Chambers played last season for the Tri-Cities Fever of the Indoor Football League, appearing in six games, catching 15 passes for 155 yards and five touchdowns. He has also spent time in the Canadian Football League, joining the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2009. He played collegiately at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., where he earned first-team Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference honors as a punt returner his senior year. Chambers is from Miami, Fla., and originally went to the University of South Florida before transferring to Lane.
"Chambers is explosive," Barto said. "He's got a great work ethic, which is something you just can't teach. We're excited to have him."
