
Comets Sign 3 More with KC Soccer Ties

(Kansas City, MO) - The Comets Major Indoor Soccer League Team has announced the signing of thee players with ties to the local college soccer scene. Signed are current Charleston Battery forward and former UMKC star, Levi Coleman, current NSC Minnesota Stars midfielder and former Johnson County Community College and Mid-America Nazerine College star, Lucas Rodriguez, and former Comets midfielder and UMKC standout, Tony Avery.
Levi Coleman, Forward: Tulsa World Metro Player of the Year in high school, Coleman split his college playing days between Florida International University and University of Missouri Kansas City. At FIU, Coleman was named to the Conference USA All-Conference Freshman Team. At UMKC, Coleman was a second-team All-Summit League Selection and helped UMKC win the Summit League title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Professionally, Coleman just came off his first professional season with the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League 2 (USL2), where Coleman was instrumental in helping the Battery to the 2010 USL2 Championship. Coleman has also played for the Kansas City Kings of the PASL and the Kansas City Brass of the PDL.
Lucas Rodriguez, Midfielder: A standout at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Rodriguez began his collegiate career at Johnson County (KS) Community College, where he earned NJCAA and NSCA All-America honors his sophomore season. He also earned NJCAA All-Region VI first-team and Kansas Jayhawk Conference first-team honors in 2005, with 12 goals, 6 assists and 5 game-winning goals. At Mid-America Nazerine College, Rodriguez earned HAAC's Most valuable Player, HAAC first-team, and NAIA third-team honors in 2009. Professionally, Rodriguez is coming off his first professional season as a starter with the NSC Minnesota Stars in the USSL Division II. Lucas joins Stars teammate, Geison Moura, on the Comets after advancing to the USSF Div. II Playoffs. Rodriguez has played for the Kansas City Kings of the PASL and the Kansas City Brass of the PDL.
Tony Avery, Forward/Midfielder: The Derby, KS, native played collegiately for UMKC, then professionally for the Kansas City Comets in 2003 and most recently for the Colorado Predators of the PASL.
"Both Levi and Lucas are coming off their first professional outdoor season, and are very polished players at such a young age," said Comets head coach, Kim Roentved. "Both are extremely young, yet exciting players, and with Tony, we have someone who has played professional indoor soccer before with the Comets and with Colorado. He'll definitely be someone the younger guys look to for leadership on the field."
