Comets Complete Roster, MISL Commissioner Raves About Opener

November 16, 2010 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) News Release

(Kansas City, MO) - The Comets Major Indoor Soccer League Team has signed two more players to complete their roster. Signed are William Chrisman High School grad and Independence, MO, native, Charles (Chaz) O'Dell, who played college soccer at Maple Woods Community College, along with another KC native, Nick Kelly, who played his college ball at Columbia College in Columbia, MO.

The Comets opened the MISL season last Friday against the league's 2009-2010 regular season champions, the Milwaukee Wave, to a near-capacity crowd at the Independence Events Center. The return of the popular laser light show and Midnight Express theme song had fans rocking from start to finish, despite losing to the league's most experienced team.

The excitement level of the home opener was not lost on Major Indoor Soccer League Commissioner, David Grimaldi, who was in attendance for the night's festivities. "The magic you (the Comets) created, with all the fanfare and commitment to providing an outstanding fan experience to our MISL supporters, certainly set the bar very high," said Grimaldi. "Thank you for kicking off our season in such an impressive manner."

Even Milwaukee Wave head coach and general manager, Keith Toser, was impressed by what his team saw last Friday. "In all of my years of coaching, this was easily the best home opener I have ever been a part of," said Tozer, a 25-year coaching veteran.

The Comets play again this Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the Independence Events Center, this time against the expansion Omaha Vipers. Dubbed "The I-29 Series" for the highway that connects the Kansas City and Omaha metropolitan areas, the two MISL teams plan to create a trophy to be awarded after each season to the team with the most head-to-head victories. The losing team will make a donation to the other team's charity.

The Comets will also be collecting canned goods for the Harvesters Food Bank at the entrances into the Independence Events Center prior to the start of the game on Friday.
