Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, OH - For the second weekend in a row, V. A. Memorial Stadium will be the site for college baseball excitement.
A triple-header is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 with the first game starting at 11:00 a.m. A twin-bill will be played on Sunday, Feb. 27, starting at 12:00 p.m.
The teams featured during this two-day event, include the Case Western Reserve University Spartans, the Bluffton University Beavers and the Wabash College Little Giants.
The Spartans are under the guidance of Matt Englander, starting his 5th season as head coach. Englander played at Wooster College where he was an All-American, posting a remarkable 10-1 record and 2.31 ERA in 2001.
Heading the list of returnees for the Spartans is Chad Mullins. Mullins is a D-III pre-season All-American pick. Last year, he batted a healthy .455 with 50 RBI and five round-trippers. Last year's "Rookie of the Year", Matt Keen, also returns. Keen hit .400 with 8 home runs and 41 RBI as a freshman in 2010.
Bluffton's head coach is James Grandey, a former graduate of Greenfield McClain High School. Grandey played baseball and football at Muskingum College. This will mark Grandey's seventh year at the helm of Bluffton.
In 2007 the Beavers were traveling to Florida when the team bus crashed in Atlanta, GA, tragically killing five team members and severely injuring several others, including coach Grandey. The past four years have been a rebuilding and healing process for the Beavers, but Grandey is excited about this year's prospects.
Leading the returnees are; senior outfielder, Cody McPherson (.368 avg., 31 RBI); senior catcher, Stephen Torres, (318) and junior third baseman, Tyler Stephenson, (.313, 23 RBI, 21 runs).
