Colgate NCAA Tourney Hero Breanne Wilson-Bennett Adds to Toronto Six's High-Skilled Forward Corps

TORONTO - Breanne Wilson-Bennett, a Markham, Ontario native who starred at Colgate University before playing for MODO Hockey in the SDHL, has become the tenth forward to sign with the Toronto Six for their inaugural season.

As a senior at Colgate, Wilson-Bennett had 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points in 41 games and was a dominating 64.5 percent in the faceoff circle. She had her greatest game in the biggest moment: in the NCAA Tournament semifinal against Wisconsin, Wilson-Bennett scored three goals, including the game-winner at 16:03 of double overtime. She was named to the All-NCAA Tournament Team, and was Second Team All-USCHO that season.

Over 147 games at Colgate, Wilson-Bennett was 49-52-101. (She was also successful during the track and field season, winning multiple events in the javelin throw).

"Breanne is a true competitor - tenacious and driven," said Colgate head coach Greg Fargo. "When she sets her mind to something, there is nothing that will get in her way. She's a great teammate and leader that will push herself and her teammates to new heights, so she's a perfect person to play a role in bringing the NWHL to Toronto. If I was starting a program, I'd want Breanne on my team."

With the Six, Wilson-Bennett joins nine forwards who all excelled in NCAA Division I programs in their collegiate careers: Brooke Boquist (Providence), Amy Curlew and Taylor Woods, (Cornell), Kelly Babstock, Shiann Darkangelo, and Sarah-Eve Coutu Godbout (Quinnipiac), Jenna McParland (Minnesota Duluth), and Mikyla Grant-Mentis and Samantha Ridgewell (Merrimack).

"We have a fantastic group of women at the Toronto Six and I am so grateful to be a part of this team," said Bennett, 24. "The NWHL is a very strong league and I cannot wait to compete against such great athletes. I am looking forward to the start of a great season, and I am beyond excited to be playing for the newest professional team in Toronto."

In the 2018-19 season with MODO Hockey, Wilson-Bennett scored 8 goals and added 12 assists for 20 points in 21 games.

Before college, Wilson-Bennett won gold medals with Team Canada at the U-18 World Championship and with Team Ontario Red at the U-18 National Championship in 2014. That season, she was also captain of the Toronto Jr. Aeros.
