Cleveland's Black Named AFL Pulse Player of the Week

Published on June 21, 2014 under Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

CHICAGO - Cleveland Gladiators defensive end Luke Black has been named the AFL Pulse Player of the Week for his recent philanthropic efforts.

Black (6-5, 275, Fairmont State), who is in his second season in the AFL, recently participated in a Habitat for Humanity Project in Elyria, Ohio.

"A group of us helped put up drywall, we laid down some floor work and helped with some electrical work as well," Black said. "It was a good feeling, being able to just help build a house in the community."

In addition, he recently volunteered his time for a community event at the East Cleveland Public Library.

"It was such a fun time," Black said. "We were serving hamburgers and hot dogs to a lot of the people that live in that area, which included a lot of high school and junior high school kids."

As an Ohio native, Black says he appreciates being able to help out his local community and give back whenever he can.

"It's nice because I'm from Ohio and I have family in Cleveland," Black said. "It's great to participate in the community service roles and give back to an area where I have personal ties."

Black and the Cleveland Gladiators (11-1) travel east this weekend to take on the Philadelphia Soul (6-7) in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" action on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. ET tonight.

The AFL Pulse Player of the Week is awarded in recognition of commitment to community service. The AFL Pulse Al Lucas Hero of the Year will be awarded to one player at the end of the 2014 season.
