The Cleveland City Stars were named the USL-2 Organization of the Year during the annual league meetings over the weekend at the Hyatt Regency in Tampa, FL. The Organization of the Year award is the highest honor bestowed upon a division two club and the Stars are excited to end the 2008 championship season with the recognition from the league.

"This is a great honor from the USL in only our second season," said Cleveland General Manager Mark Geissbauer. "This is a testament not only to our play on the field but to all of our fans, volunteers and entire front office staff. We are extremely excited about this award and we look forward to what we can accomplish in the future."

The Stars followed up one of the most successful inaugural seasons in league history with an exciting second season that saw the Stars finish the regular season 10-3-7 and advance to host the championship match with the Charlotte Eagles. Championship weekend was a great event that included camps and clinics, a press conference at City Hall and the Stars' nationally televised 2-1 victory to capture the club's first ever championship.

"In just two seasons the Cleveland City Stars organization has proven that it belongs with the league's elite," said USL Executive Vice President Tim Holt. "They capped it off this season with a championship on the field and the front office has been just as impressive off the field. We are happy to have added the Stars to the USL and we look forward to watching the organization continue to grow."

This is the second consecutive season that Cleveland has been honored at the league meetings. In 2007 Geissbauer was named Executive of the Year to go along with the Marketing Excellence Award and the Rookie Franchise of the Year.
