Scottish Claymores News Release
THE NFL Europe League and Scottish Claymores announced today that the contracts of head coach GENE DAHLQUIST and defensive coordinator RAY WOODARD will not be renewed for the 2004 season.
Dahlquist, offensive coordinator at the University of Nevada Las Vegas before joining the NFLEL in 2000, had just completed his third season as head coach of the Claymores. Woodard, who coached in the NFL Europe League with the Claymores and Frankfurt Galaxy, had also completed his third season as the Scots defensive coordinator.
JOHN BEAKE, NFL Vice President of Football Operations, said: "We have decided to make a change in direction at the Scottish Claymores football team. This has been a very tough business decision but we feel that it is time to move in a new direction. We thank Gene and Ray for their three years of service to the Claymores and the League."
Claymores General Manager, STEVE LIVINGSTONE, said: "The Claymores would like to join the League in thanking Gene and Ray for three years service to the Scottish Claymores. Gene is a gentleman as well as a great competitor and I enjoyed working with both him and Ray Woodard during their three seasons in Scotland. "
Under Dahlquist's stewardship, the Claymores recorded a 4-6 standing in 2001, a 5-5 record in 2002 and a 6-4 mark this past season narrowly missing out in a tie-breaker to Rhein Fire and Frankfurt Galaxy for a place in World Bowl XI.
An announcement on new coaching appointments at the Scottish Claymores will be made at a later date.
