Rio Grande Valley outfielder Jeremy Murch and Springfield/Ozark starter Tim McClaskey were named the first Daktronics Central League Players of the Week for the 2003 season.

Murch, 24, set a single-game Central League RBI record with eight on May 8 versus San Angelo. The previous record had been seven, held by several players and most recently achieved by Sergio Cairo of San Angelo versus Alexandria on Aug. 24, 2002.

Murch went 7-for-18 (.389) during the shortened week from May 7 through May 11. He hit three doubles, one triple, one homer and 12 RBIs. He scored four runs, slugged .833 and had a .421 on-base percentage. Murch played for Rio Grande Valley and Edinburg in 2002 after four seasons in the Tampa Bay organization.

McClaskey, 27, pitched a complete game shutout versus Amarillo on May 8, allowing eight hits, one walk and striking out seven.

The Muscatine (Iowa) Community College product is in his eighth year as a professional pitcher. McClaskey played for Triple-A Sacramento last season in the Oakland Athletics organization. He led the Florida Marlins Gulf Coast League team with two shutouts in 1996.
