City Stars Win Three Awards at USL League Meetings

It was an unprecedented weekend at the United Soccer Leagues' Soccer Fest as the Cleveland City Stars walked away with three of seven league awards during the USL Hall of Fame & Awards Dinner Banquet this past weekend in Tampa, Florida. In addition to the many Awards the team already received during the season, the league recognized the outstanding team performance with the Rookie Franchise of the Year, the Marketing Excellence Award and the 2007 Executive of the Year Award, which was presented to General Manager Mark Geissbauer.
Geissbauer joins Cleveland Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro in representing Cleveland as executives of the year for their respective leagues in 2007.
"The tremendous success of our franchise in our inaugural season was a true team effort. All the way from our President, Board of Directors, players, all the way to the many people volunteering their time at each home game, it seems like everyone always gives their very best on a daily basis." said Geissbauer. "We are fortunate to have so many people in the great City of Cleveland behind us and it is going to be exciting the see the future of this franchise develop even further in the future."
"This reflects the true success of the City Stars and their vision, both on and off the field," added Steven Thompson, the USL Director of Pro League Operations. "They have set a new standard for all USL Franchises and we feel fortunate to have a team that cares so much about playing high level soccer, but also to make a difference for many children in their city. We're excited to see where the City Stars can take their franchise in the future."
Topping off the news from the meetings, Geissbauer was voted by his fellow peers onto the USL-2 Executive Committee. "It's a huge honor to be one of the few Executives selected to be part of this," said the City Stars GM "I look forward to be working with the other executives to be part of the professional soccer development in the US and our league, while representing the City Stars organization and having our voice heard."

City Stars Add Three New Members to Front Office
New to the City Stars front office for the 2008 season will be Assistant General Manager Ryan Souders. A graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, Souders joins the City Stars organization after spending last season at Gordon College as an assistant coach.
"I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to work with such a professionally run staff with a proven track record, both on and off the field," said Souders. "We're coming off a very encouraging season and I just hope to contribute to the ongoing success of the franchise.
In addition, the City Stars also want to welcome Ryan Aroney (Media Relations) and Christina Pacheco (Ticket Sales) as official CCS Staff Members. Aroney and Pacheco are both Cleveland area natives and outstanding students from Cleveland State University.
