Cleveland City Stars News Release

The Cleveland City Stars have announced Mark Zimmerman, Glen Duerr and Steve Bell as the TV announcing team for the 2009 season. Zimmerman and Duerr will work together on the 12 SportsTime Ohio broadcasts and Bell will join in for the three nationally televised Fox Soccer Channel broadcasts.

Zimmerman is a 30 year veteran of broadcasting in Cleveland and is currently an on-air host on the 103.3 WCRF morning show. Zimmerman's sports broadcasting career has seen him handle play-by-play for hockey and baseball throughout his career and he has spent the past two seasons passionately reporting on the City Stars. Zimmerman also has behind the scenes experience as the assistant director for Cleveland Indians telecasts and producer of the Cleveland Browns radio post game show. The native Clevelander will handle play-by-play duties for the City Stars on SportsTime Ohio.

With the addition of Zimmerman, Duerr will slide over in the announcers booth to handle color for STO. Duerr was a member of the inaugural City Stars club in 2007 and handled play-by-play duties on STO last season. While still an active player in 2007, Duerr made special appearances on radio and webcasts of City Stars matches. Duerr holds his Ph. D. in Political Science and before retiring he wrote a blog for the United Soccer Leagues entitled Professor Duerr. The native of England has also authored several journal articles, book chapters and encyclopedia entries.

Steve Bell is a former professional player with the A-League (USL-1) Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the MLS Tampa Bay Mutiny. Since retiring in 2001, Bell has worked as a host, sideline reporter, play-by-play man and color commentator for the USL on Fox Soccer Channel and various MLS broadcasts on ESPN. Bell has experience covering the City Stars as he was the host and sideline reporter for last season's USL-2 championship match in Cleveland.

"Mark, Glen and Steve all bring a lot to the table and we're excited to have them on board," said Director of Media Relations Ryan Aroney. "Mark is an experienced local broadcaster who knows the needs of the local fan and he is an exceptional play-by-play man. Glen knows how to break the game down technically and he has been with the team since its inception. He offers a unique insight into the game because of his experience as a player and from his personal relationships with many of the players throughout the league. Steve is a polished and well rounded broadcaster that can handle any role and will add greatly to our national broadcasts."

The Friday May 1st home opener will be broadcast nationally on FSC starting at 8 p.m. STO will air 12 matches throughout the summer with the first coming Saturday May 9th at 10 p.m. The remaining two matches will be broadcast by FSC on Friday May 22nd and Friday July 3rd.
