City Stars Traveling to Bermuda and Western Mass Over the Weekend

The Cleveland City Stars, fresh off its latest home victory, will take to the road for three weeks while playing its next five games away from Krenzler Stadium. The first two games of the road trip come this weekend as the City Stars travel to Bermuda on Friday and to Western Mass on Sunday.

In Friday's 6 pm opener, the City Stars face off with the 2-3-0 Bermuda Hogges. Bermuda's victories over Wilmington and Pittsburgh are good for six points, which place the Hogges in seventh place in the USL-Second Division. Both of Bermuda's victories on the season have come at home.

Following Friday's match, Cleveland will fly to Boston to face the Western Mass Pioneers Sunday at 7 pm. Western Mass enters Sunday's contest 3-3-1 sitting directly behind Cleveland in fourth place with ten points.

The City Stars closed the gap on the top of the USL-2 table thanks to last week's victory over Pittsburgh coupled with the Charlotte Eagles 1-0 loss to Richmond. The third place City Stars are 3-1-2 with 11 points and now stand two points behind second place Charlotte and four points behind league leading Crystal Palace Baltimore.

It is a big weekend for the City Stars with an opportunity to move up the table. The top two teams, Crystal Palace Baltimore and the Charlotte Eagles, play each other Friday night and the City Stars play two games while the other top teams play one game a piece.

City Stars to Face Michigan Bucks (PDL) June 10th in US Open Cup First Round

Michigan BucksThe 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup gets under way on Tuesday June 10 and the City Stars will travel north for the first round to face the Michigan Bucks of the PDL at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, MI.

The Bucks are currently undefeated with a 4-0-0 record against PDL competition and have reached the PDL Final the past two years, winning the title in 2006. This season, Michigan has scored 11 goals while surrendering only two.

The City Stars have qualified for the US Open Cup for the second straight season. In last year's match-up, the City Stars traveled to Kansas City to face the Kansas City Brass of the PDL. Cleveland came home victorious with a 4-0 decision in last season's match and Cleveland is looking forward to doing it again.

The 2008 pairing is an intriguing match-up as the Ohio-Michigan rivalry will be lived out in a new form through the beautiful game. The Bucks have proven capable of beating teams from Ohio as its latest victory came over the Cleveland Internationals (PDL) in Lakewood, OH.

The City Stars will look to swing the momentum back to Ohio while playing for the pride of its fans when the two teams square off June 10th at 7:30pm.

At stake in the tournament is $180,000 in prize money broken down as follows: $100,000 to the champion, $50,000 to the runner up and $10,000 to the team that advances deepest into the tournament from each of the Division II, Division III and amateur levels. The winner of the tournament will earn a berth into the CONCACAF 2009-10 Champions League.

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the US Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.

Follow the City Stars on the Road with the Green Army and Through Live Webcasts

Green ArmyJoin the Green Army as they follow the City Stars on two of their upcoming road trips. The first trip will see the City Stars looking for revenge on June 7th against Real Maryland for last week's 3-2 defeat. The June 7th match with Real Maryland will also be webcast live on clevelandcitystars.com for those that are unable to make the trip.

The second Green Army trip is to Pittsburgh on June 14th and the Green Army will need to be in full effect for the rivalry game to cancel out Pittsburgh's Steel Army.

The cost is only $25 per person for the day-long Green Army trips, with overnight possibilities also available. The busses will depart from the Stars Office in Twinsburg at 10 AM and return immediately following the match.
