Cleveland City Stars News Release
The City Stars take on the Rochester Rhinos this Friday, May 1st at 8 p.m. in the home opener at Middlefield Cheese Stadium at Bedford City Schools. The City Stars are looking for victory on the home pitch after a 3-0 defeat against the Austin Aztex on the road last week. With a 0-2 record after taking on Miami FC and the Austin Aztex, the City Stars have tallied only one goal by forward Ricardo Pierre-Louis. Midfielder Pato Aguilera registered the assist.
Both matches ended with the City Stars playing down with ten men due to red cards. Joshua Boateng drew a red card against Miami FC after an elbow to the face, and Ryan Stewart followed with the same offense against the Aztex.
Led by top goal-scorer Johnny Menyongar, the Rochester Rhinos are 1-1-1 for the season after taking on the Carolina RailHawks, Puerto Rico Islanders and Miami FC. The record puts them in sixth place in the league with 4 points.
Menyongar tallied the first two Rhino goals of the season last week to beat Miami FC 2-1. Former City Stars midfielder Kwame Sarkodie started for the Rhinos against Miami and played for 71 minutes before being substituted. The City Stars and Rhinos have faced off in two preseason matches in 2008 and 2009. Both matches ended in draws.
Friday's match will be shown live on Fox Soccer Channel at 8 p.m. as the first of five nationally televised matches for the City Stars this season. Three of those FSC broadcasts will come at home.
