Cleveland City Stars News Release

CLEVELAND, Ohio - After an exciting victory in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, the Cleveland City Stars are looking to add a second home win this week as they take on the rival Rochester Rhinos this Saturday, June 13th at 7 p.m. The Rhinos defeated the City Stars 3-0 at Middlefield Cheese Stadium in the home opener in May.

The City Stars defeated the St. Louis Lions of the PDL on Tuesday in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and plan to bring the same energy and determination to Saturday's match. Although the City Stars had a slow beginning to the season, ties with Portland and Puerto Rico and a win over Minnesota have brought the record to 1-7-2, with high hopes for the future.

Currently in tenth place in league standings, the City Stars have been led by top goal-scorers Ryan Stewart and Ricardo Pierre-Louis. Assist-leader Pato Aguilera has also played a crucial role, and was named to the USL-1 Team of the Week this past week after his performance against Puerto Rico.

Rochester is currently fifth in USL standings, with 14 points and a 4-4-2 record. Johnny Menyongar has been an offensive powerhouse, with four goals and one assist, including a goal in the victory over the City Stars. The Rhinos defeated the Stars 3-0 after a heavily contested foul earned the Rhinos a penalty kick which resulted in the first goal of the match. The goal sparked a string of bad luck for the City Stars which continued throughout the game.

Despite the Rhinos strong league record, they struggled against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Second Division on Tuesday in the U.S. Open Cup. The Rhinos eventually won in penalty kicks, but spent most of the match struggling after going down a goal early in the first half.

Saturday will also be Green Army Fan Night, with free Green Army dog tags for the first 250 fans in the stadium. Halftime competitions including a crossbar contest, sumo-suit soccer skills face-off and the traditional Frisbee toss will give fans the opportunity to win autographed, authentic 2009 City Stars jerseys.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. The match will be shown three times on SportsTime Ohio throughout the week, premiering Saturday at 10:30 p.m. and replaying June 14th at 5:00 a.m. and June 16th at 12:00 p.m. The match will also be shown live on www.usllive.com and will be available on demand following the conclusion of the match.
