Cleveland City Stars News Release
The Cleveland City Stars are extremely pleased to announce the re-signing of six major players that will help form the core of this year's team.
Included in the signings are 2007 CCS Player of the Year Derek Potteiger and team captain & USL-2 Defender of the Year Mark Schulte.
"I am thrilled to be back in
Cleveland for the 2008 season," said Potteiger. "There was a great foundation built in 2007, but we are only looking ahead to the upcoming season and what it takes to win a championship. We have all the pieces in place, a great organization, a great staff, great facilities, and great fans. Now it is up to us to make a championship in Cleveland a reality."
USL-2 league-leading goal keeper & fan favorite #1 Hunter Gilstrap, who has been on loan with a Pro Team in Europe, during the past couple of weeks,
has also re-signed, bringing his dominating presence back to the net in 2008.
#18 Luke Williams will also be back roaming the midfield for the City Stars, and he has added another title to go along with his role on the team. Williams will serve as Community Relations & Inner-City Director while Chris Lemons is away with the Colorado Rapids MLS Team.
Two players who are currently playing very well in the Kenya Premier League as part of a CCS Partnership with World Hope, Stephen Rigby and Ian Leibbrandt, are also back for 2008. Rigby missed much of last season due to an Injury, while Leibbrandt registered 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 games played.
"These signings are a huge step in bringing back the foundation & leadership of our 2007 team," said Head Coach Martin Rennie. "To capitalize on the excitement of last season, we want to continue adding new high profile players to make this year's team even more successful."
