The Cleveland City Stars have just announced three new signings for the upcoming 2008 season. #16 Dana McGregor, a midfielder from Pismo Beach, CA, will be returning for his second year in Cleveland. As an absolute fan favorite in 2007, McGregor will once again join Derek Potteiger and Luke Williams to form a fierce midfield rotation. When not roaming Krenzler Field with CCS, McGregor has been a member of the U.S. National Futsal Team. McGregor has extensive professional experience all over the world, last playing with the California Cougars of MISL before joining CCS.
Two new players, defender Josh Westermann and midfielder Ryan Stewart, are the first new players added to the 2008 roster that played elsewhere last season.
Westermann played collegiately at Gonzaga University in Washington. Between his junior and senior seasons, Westermann played in the 2005 Premier Development League (PDL) between with the Cascade Surge and was named to the PDL All-League Team. Westermann spent the past year in South Africa working with underprivileged kids and teaching prison inmates to play soccer.
Stewart, who is originally from Trinidad, comes to Cleveland after a marvelous career at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky. Last season, Stewart amassed 15 goals and 5 assists from his midfield position and was named an NAIA All-American for the third consecutive season. He topped off his collegiate career by being named NAIA Region XI Player of the Year. Stewart ranks in the top 10 all-time at Lindsey Wilson College with 53 career goals.
"Dana McGregor, Josh Westermann and Ryan Stewart all have great futures ahead of them," said CCS Head Coach Martin Rennie. "McGregor is a great player and an incredible personality. Westermann comes with great national & international experience and it would be hard to find a better human being and a harder worker on the field. Ryan Stewart reminds me of his fellow countrymen, Russell Latapy. He's a very talented young player with a lot of potential. It will be exciting to see their development during the 2008 season and to see their future's unfold in the professional ranks."
