The Cleveland City Stars, currently in third place in the USL-2 table, have qualified for the USL playoffs for the second consecutive year. The 2008 playoff field will consist of six teams with the top two clubs receiving byes into the semi-finals. Cleveland sits just three points behind second place Richmond with four matches remaining on the schedule.

"This is an amazing achievement to advance once again to the playoffs in only our second year as a team," said Cleveland City Stars General Manager Mark Geissbauer. "We are one of the first teams to qualify this season and our players, staff and fans have worked extremely hard and we are excited to bring the playoffs, and now hopefully a championship, back to Cleveland."

While the top two clubs receive byes during the first round, teams three through six will play a single-elimination round beginning Wednesday August 13. The winner of the 3-v-6 match will advance to face the top seeded team and the winner of the 4-v-5 match will advance to face the second seed in the semi-final round. The semi-finals will take place Saturday August 16.

The winners of the semi-final matches will advance to face-off in the championship. The championship match is scheduled for the following Saturday August 23rd and will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel.

"The first step in this process is a to get a big win Saturday against Bermuda during our Fan Appreciation Night," said Geissbauer. "We look forward to a fun event with a lot of the great give-aways and prizes and I am convinced the team will put on a great show for the fans to celebrate our accomplishments together."
