Cleveland City Stars News Release
The Cleveland City Stars finished off the busy weekend with a 2-2 draw at Western Mass, earning the fourth point of the weekend and moving into a second place tie with Crystal Palace Baltimore.
It was an action packed first half as all four goals came before half time.
The scoring started in the 8th minute when Callum Bissett snuck the ball past Hunter Gilstrap for a 1-0 Western Mass lead.
It did not take long for the City Stars to even the match. Two of Cleveland's most exciting young players factored yet again into the scoring in the 19th minute when Adriano Sella found Sallieu Bundu in front of the net and Bundu found the back corner for a 1-1 score.
Western Mass responded in the 35th minute when Neil Krause shot the ball over the top of the Cleveland defense off an assist from Jeff Deren for a 2-1 Western Mass lead.
The back-and-forth contest continued with an exciting goal just before half in the 45th minute. With Cleveland playing a corner kick into the box, the ball was headed out by Western Mass into the vicinity of Dana McGregor. McGregor responded with a stunning bicycle kick from ten yards out that sailed past the Western Mass keeper for a 2-2 tie.
"I was at the right place at the right time and I was able to sneak it in there," said McGregor. "I've told our General Manager for years that I was going to get a bike to go in during a game. It was a great feeling to get that one to go in."
The second half played to a slower pace as the City Stars controlled the ball for much of the half but were unable to get past the Western Mass defense.
"We're all disappointed in the result because we wanted to come out with a win," said Cleveland defenseman Jeremy Tolleson. "We made some defensive mistakes in the first half but we made two nice goals to get back in the game. We controlled the second half but just could not get one in there for the win. We were happy with the Bermuda result and wanted another win today, but in the long run we got four points on the road so it was a good weekend."
Cleveland now stands at 4-1-3, good for 15 points and a second place tie in the USL-2 table, one point behind first place Charlotte. The City Stars return to Cleveland for a week of training before heading back out onto the road Saturday June 7th at Real Maryland.
