Cleveland City Stars News Release

June 6th, 2007 The Cleveland City Stars, one of three USL-2 expansion teams, continue their undefeated ways for another consecutive week and have two players included in the USL-2 Team of the Week. A 1-1 draw with the Harrisburg City Islanders kept the loss tally at zero for the City Stars and earned Cleveland's #13 Mark Schulte Team of the Week honors for the second straight week. Schulte was joined by Forward Ian Leibbrandt who is making his second appearance on the Team of the Week as well.

Cleveland has tallied 14 points and currently sits in third place in the standings, just 4 points behind the league leaders (Charlotte Eagles) who have played two more games than the Stars. At 4-0-2 the Cleveland City Stars have the best record ever for a new team since the league became the United Soccer League Second Division in 2005.

Cleveland hopes to add 3 more points to their total this Saturday, June 9th at 7:00pm, when they return home to Krenzler Field for a third meeting with their in-state rivals the Cincinnati Kings. CCS has played the Kings twice already this season, both times in Cincinnati, and both with the identical 2-1 victorious results. Cincinnati will undoubtedly be out to avenge their dual losses and coach Rennie is working hard to prepare his team for the challenge. "In games like this, where there is already a history and a developing rivalry, the presence of the fans is so important. Cincinnati is not too far away, so the Kings may have a pretty big cheering section. We are hopeful that the Cleveland fans come out in force to help us get back to winning," said Rennie.

The first thousand fans through the gate will receive a stadium cushion courtesy of Charter One and one lucky fan will win Derek Potteiger's original #10 jersey. It is the same jersey Potteiger wore in the first ever Cleveland City Stars match, where he scored the game winning goal. Tickets for this piece of history are $5.00 each and can be purchased on-line at www.clevelandcitystars.com. The winner will be presented the jersey at the game on June 9th (if present) and will have the opportunity to line up with the team on the field for the pre-game announcements and player introductions. The last day to purchase tickets is tomorrow (June 7th) and only a few remain. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the Stars historic inaugural season!

Just a reminder, anyone with access to the internet can log on to www.firstclasshiphop.com for a re-broadcast of that week's game. Games are available the Sunday following a home game at 2:00pm and again at 2:00pm the next Saturday.

THREE CITY STARS PLAYERS TO PLAY FOR COLUMBUS CREW

Three City Stars players had a different kind of training session this week. Defenders Andrew Peterson and Skelly Kellar and Forward Adrian Balc were on loan to the Columbus Crew Reserve Team for their match with the Chicago Fire Reserves this past Monday. "We are glad to share our talented players with the Crew and hope this will be the beginning of a long-lasting partnership which will benefit both clubs," commented Mark Geissbauer, CCS General Manager.

The Crew Reserves brought home a 1-0 victory and all three Stars earned playing time. Skelly Kellar came off the bench at midfield in the 81st minute, and Adrian Balc was subbed in for Forward Kei Kamara, the only goal scorer of the match, in the 73rd minute. Andrew Peterson, the Stars #6, started the game on the field and played the full 90 minutes. "It was an unbelievable experience," said a grinning Peterson. "Playing with the City Stars has been amazing. I never thought it would lead to a chance to play with an MLS club so soon. I'm very grateful for the belief both clubs showed in me and just wanted to make the most of the opportunity," Peterson continued.

For a chance to meet Peterson, Kellar, Balc and the rest of the guys join the Cleveland City Stars Booster Club for a Meet the Team party. All players, coaches and staff will be available for autographs and personal introductions on June 10th.
