Harrisburg, PA, February 27, 2008. The Harrisburg City Islanders professional soccer team will be holding an open tryout on Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, at In The Net Sports Complex in Palmyra, PA to find potential players for the 2008 season. There are currently over 55 players registered to attend that hail from all around the United States and several foreign countries.
This yearly event has proven to be very valuable to the City Islanders as each season at least one player has made the squad and contributed on the pitch. Harrisburg Head Coach Bill Becher noted that "Historically you can look back on each of our four seasons and see where the team has benefited from the addition of a player who attended the open tryouts. Players like 2007 finals MVP Dustin Bixler and forward Steve Fisher are prime examples of guys that fell into our laps but have reaped huge dividends for the club. Identifying players of this quality is a large part of our team success and we look forward to finding a few more players this year."
The open tryout will begin on Saturday at 10:00am and run until 1:00pm. The coaching staff will invited selected players back for the same time frame on Sunday for further review. Players are required to register on-line at www.cityislanders.com.
All media inquiries may be directed to Assistant General Manager Kierstin Rowe via e-mail at kierstin@cityislanders.com or on field during tryouts. Players and coaches will be available on request.
The City Islanders will open the defense of their 2007 title when pre-sesason training camp opens at 10:00am on Monday March 17, 2008 at In The Net.
