(Harrisburg, Pa., June 30, 2005) - The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of midfielder Ryan O'Neill, a veteran of the USL First Division who has also played professionally in Germany. O'Neill is expected to be available when the City Islanders face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday night at Falconi Field in Washington, Pa. (7:30 p.m. kickoff).

The 27-year-old O'Neill spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons with the Raleigh Express of the USL First Division (then called the A-League), totaling two goals and six assists. O'Neill subsequently spent three years (2002-2004) with FC Grun Weiss Wolfen of the German Oberliga. The native of Lima, Pa., has also trained with Karlsruhe SC of the German Second Bundesliga and with two MLS teams, the MetroStars (2004) and Tampa Bay Mutiny (2000).

As a four-year starter at the University of South Carolina from 1996-99, O'Neill tallied 20 goals and 19 assists and ranked 15th on the school's all-time scoring list upon graduation. He was an All-Independent Conference selection in 1998 and 1999. The 5-8, 155-pound midfielder was named to the Parade Magazine All-American Team and was dubbed the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year after his senior season (1995) at Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, Pa.

The Harrisburg City Islanders are in their second season of play in the nine-team USL Second Division. The City Islanders' 20-game (10 home, 10 away) regular season schedule kicked off on April 16 and will run through August 13, with home games played at scenic Skyline Sports Complex on City Island in Harrisburg, Pa.
