City Islanders Obtain Charleston Keeper On Loan

June 22, 2004 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA –The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Michael Behonick on loan from the A-League's Charleston Battery. Behonick will be with the Islanders for the club's two games this week: on Wednesday, June 23, at home against the Northern Virginia Royals and on Saturday, June 26, on the road against the Westchester Flames.

Behonick is the second Battery keeper loaned to Harrisburg in as many weeks, following Chris Doyle. Doyle started both Islanders contests last week, saving six shots in a 3-0 win over Long Island last Friday and stopping another six attempts in a 1-0 double overtime loss in Reading on Saturday. He has since returned to Charleston.

The 23-year-old Behonick was first loaned to the Islanders for their game in Charlotte on April 30, dressing as Dave Kern's backup in that match. The 6-3, 190-pound keeper did not play for Charleston during his rookie season of 2003, and has not yet appeared in a game in 2004. Behonick was a three-year starter at American University and was selected by D.C. United in the 2002 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

The Harrisburg City Islanders are playing their inaugural season in the Pro Soccer League (PSL), a division of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). The club's 20-game regular season (10 home, 10 away) opened on April 17 and will conclude on Saturday, August 14, at home against the Charlotte Eagles.
