Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA - C ity Islanders FC will start one final push for the USL playoffs when they take on New York Red Bulls II at Pucillo Field at Millersburg University on Tuesday, September 7 at 4 p.m. All tickets will be $5 in advance and at the gate. All Millersville students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with registration.
Although City has not lost in their last four games, they have given away great opportunities to pick up key points that could have catapulted them into the playoffs. The recent draws against Pittsburgh and Bethlehem loom large in the road to the postseason.
The road doesn't get easier with New York either. The Red Bulls are six points clear of the rest of the league and have only lost one game on the road all season and only have three losses all season. Originally the game was scheduled to be played in New York, but has been relocated to Millersburg University due to adverse field conditions at the Red Bulls home field.
City and the Red Bulls met a few weeks ago in a match up that the Isles would soon like to forget. After giving up only one goal and holding their own in the first half, New York poured it on in the second with four unanswered goals for a 5-0 final. That was City's only loss in the last eight games.
The Islanders started the game strong, but could not find the finally quality to grab the opening goal. Garret Pettis and Jose Barril both had great scoring chances in the first 20 minutes of the game, but the Red Bulls took the all important first goal in the 26th minutes and rolled from there.
New York's scoring attack is led by Brandon Allen who has 12 goals on the season along with 2 more assists. After they won five straight games and have scored five goals in two of those games.
During the Islanders' point streak they have found a core group of guys who can get the team going with players like Cardel Benbow, Craig Foster, Barril and Dante Leverock. They have also given a lot of playing time to rookie keeper Keasel Broome during this run.
The next Islanders' game, which was scheduled for Clipper Magazine Stadium, will also be relocated to Millersburg University on Saturday, September 17 at 7 p.m. All tickets will be $5 in advance and at the gate. All Millersville students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with registration. After that City will have one game remaining on the road at FC Montreal to end the season.
