(Hershey, Pa., April 20, 2006)- The Harrisburg City Islanders improved to 7-0 in preseason play with a 2-0 win over Towson University on Thursday night at Hersheypark Stadium. Steve Fisher and Jim Stevens scored goals for the City Islanders, who wrap up their preseason schedule tomorrow night in Mill Hall, PA, at Central Park High School against Penn State University (7:00 p.m.).
Harrisburg's 2006 season opener is just nine days away, as the Cincinnati Kings visit Skyline Sports Complex on Saturday, April 29 (7:05 p.m.)
Fisher scored in the 23rd minute after some nice midfield build-up from trialist Franco Caruso and Bernie Showers. After a Towson turnover, Caruso back-heeled the ball to Showers along the left wing. Showers turned inside and sent an angled to the right slot, where Fisher ran onto it and skimmed a shot under the keeper.
Eight minutes later, John Lapore sent a free kick sailing into the penalty area, where the 6'7" Stevens skied above a crowd of defenders and flicked it home.
Sam Bishop went the distance in goal for Harrisburg, making a handful of saves - including a couple of nice leaping efforts on long free kicks in the 27th and 54th minutes.
Notes:
The City Islanders complete their preseason schedule tomorrow night in Mill Hall, PA, against Penn State University. Kickoff at Central Mountain High School will be 7:00 p.m.
