Harrisburg, PA – The Harrisburg City Islanders announced on Wednesday that the club has finalized a uniform deal with JAKO USA, Inc. JAKO will supply the Islanders with uniforms and equipment throughout the 2004 Pro Soccer League season.

"We are extremely proud to be the first professional team in the United States to wear the JAKO uniform," stated City Islanders General Manager Joe Sierko. "I am very confident that we will represent their brand well both on and off the field."

"Working with a superior equipment company like JAKO will contribute to the mentality of pride and professionalism we want to build with our club," said Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher. "In the near future, we have no doubt that they will be as highly regarded here as they are in Europe."

Midfielder Derek Potteiger, whose signing was the focal point of a press conference at Angelo's Soccer Corner in Mechanicsburg on Wednesday, was introduced wearing a prototype Islanders jersey supplied by JAKO. The Islanders plan to wear a dark blue jersey (similar to the one modeled by Potteiger) at home and white on the road. The possibility of an alternate jersey exists. Finalization of a jersey design will be contingent upon a number of factors, including pending sponsorship deals.

Based in Germany and founded 15 years ago, JAKO (pronounced YAW-ko) provides uniforms and equipment for many leading European clubs, including several Bundesliga (German First Division) sides. The JAKO brand stands for a proven line of soccer apparel and equipment that incorporates the latest technologies in materials and design. The City Islanders are the first professional team in the United States to partner with JAKO.

"As a European leader in soccer apparel and equipment now entering the U.S. market, it is essential for us to associate our brand with organizations like the City Islanders," said Markus Maritz, President & CEO of JAKO USA, Inc. "The positive image and strong market recognition of this young franchise is an ideal match with JAKO's goal to create strong market awareness for the JAKO brand, and Angelo's Soccer Corner is a perfect choice as our preferred teamsport distributor."

The Harrisburg City Islanders will enter their first season of play in the outdoor Professional Soccer League, a division of the United Soccer Leagues, in April of 2004, with home games at the Skyline Sports Complex on City Island.
