CIFL Week Three and Four Players of the Week

Published on April 10, 2007 under Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release

CIFL Offensive Player of the Week

Shane Franzer, Port Huron Pirates

Franzer was dominant during Port Huron's 60-13 victory over Rochester in week three of the 2007 season. It was the fifth-straight win by Port Huron over the Raiders.

Franzer rushed for 96 yards and four touchdowns on just nine totes. He bettered the entire Rochester team by nearly 30 rushing yards.

Through the air, Franzer was 13-of-19 for 154 yards and three touchdowns. He completed passes to five different Port Huron receivers in the game.

CIFL Defensive Player of the Week

Thomas McKenzie, Marion Mayhem

McKenzie's play on the defensive line was critical in Marion garnering its first victory of the season, 48-20 over the Muskegon Thunder.

McKenzie recorded three sacks in the game and, along with Terrell Thomas, forced a safety on Muskegon quarterback Stephan Wasil. It was the second straight game in which McKenzie had a hand in forcing a safety.

McKenzie totaled eight tackles (four for loss) and added a fumble recovery for the Mayhem.

CIFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Darius Smith, Rochester Raiders

Smith was one of the few bright spots in Rochester's 60-13 loss to Port Huron. He led the team in all-purpose yards, nearly doubling the total of the next player on the list for the Raiders.

He returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the second time this year, this time it was a 52-yarder. That ties, with Germaine Goode, for the third-longest of all-time in league history. He also tied the league record (54 yards) in week one.

He returned five kicks for the Raiders on the night, totaling 107 return yards (20.1 average). He also returned a missed field goal 14 yards.
