Minnesota United FC News Release

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Wednesday, November 5th, 2014) -- After tying the NASL single-season scoring record with 20 goals, Minnesota United forward Christian Ramirez has been named the North American Soccer League Player of the Month for October/November, an award voted on by the media who regularly cover the NASL. This is Ramirez's third time winning this award this year.

"It feels good to be honored again, I'm just trying to do my job to ensure that we got the top seed. It's a collective award, without the rest of the team it wouldn't be possible."

Ramirez continued the impressive form he has had throughout the season into the month of October. The 23-year-old scored four goals in the six matches last month. His first being the lone goal against the Atlanta Silverbacks on October 4th to win the match, and two coming against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on October 15th. His record-tying 20th goal came in the final match of the season against Carolina, with a long-range shot from outside the penalty area to tie the match for Minnesota early in the second half.

"Christian has been outstanding," said United Head Coach Manny Lagos. "He's embraced playing within the group also done a great job at when you think his talent has dipped he still is going strong and putting in goals. He's done that all year and been extremely consistent with that, and that's why he's won this award again."

Ramirez signed with Minnesota in 2014 before the Spring Season. He stepped in as the main striker after Pablo Campos was injured during the preseason, and has been a standout striker in the NASL. With a plethora of highlight-reel goals, Ramirez has become an extremely valuable part of United's attack and quickly become one of the top players in the league.

The California native was named to the Team of the Week twice in October, and along with being honored for the first week in November, has been named to the team 13 times of the 27 weeks in the 2014 season. His play has earned him nominations for several season awards including: Golden Ball, Golden Boot, Young Player of the Year, and Goal of the Year.

"I never really thought four years ago that I'd be here, so it's truly a blessing from God to be in this situation, and whether I win any of these awards or not, I'm just thankful for this year and that we were able to come out on top in the Spring and Combined seasons."

Come see Ramirez and the rest of Minnesota United in action at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 8th as they host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in The Championship Semifinal at NSC Stadium in Blaine.
